Chiller Selection at High Ambient Temperature

The maximum design entering-air temperature is a key input when selecting an air-cooled chiller. Standard catalogue capacity does not establish the capacity available at high ambient temperature.

Technical assessment

Review clearances, hot-air recirculation and barriers to airflow. Rooftop and enclosed-recess conditions can differ from the weather-station temperature.

Operating conditions and limits

Confirm capacity and electrical input at the requested liquid and ambient temperatures through the manufacturer’s selection. Do not assume a universal maximum temperature or a fixed derating percentage.

Information needed for selection

Provide the application, operating hours, cooling load, entering and leaving liquid temperatures, fluid type and concentration, flow, site location and environmental conditions. A nominal capacity alone does not replace a detailed equipment selection.

Frequently asked question

Does this guide replace a product performance sheet?

No. It explains selection inputs and technical limits. Confirm the final model, capacity and options through a manufacturer selection at the actual operating conditions.
