What Is a Chiller Evaporator?

The evaporator transfers heat from the process liquid to the refrigerant. Refrigerant evaporation cools the liquid; the two fluids remain in separate passages during normal operation.

Technical assessment

Compare plate and shell-and-tube designs using fluid compatibility, fouling risk, pressure drop, approach temperature and service access. A compact exchanger is not automatically the best choice.

Operating conditions and limits

Insufficient flow or an unsuitable temperature setting can create freezing risks. Review strainers, flow protection and freeze controls together; do not bypass protective devices.

Information needed for selection

Provide the application, operating hours, cooling load, entering and leaving liquid temperatures, fluid type and concentration, flow, site location and environmental conditions. A nominal capacity alone does not replace a detailed equipment selection.

Frequently asked question

Does this guide replace a product performance sheet?

No. It explains selection inputs and technical limits. Confirm the final model, capacity and options through a manufacturer selection at the actual operating conditions.
